Would you be willing to bring a small bag of used clothes for donation when you come to Argentina?
GIC Argentina believes strongly in giving back to the community. In addition to monthly financial donations to local needy organizations, GIC Argentina also regularly organizes used clothing donations for underprivileged children and famililes. Everyone has some clothes at the back of the closet that they don't wear for some reason.
We regularly arrange for visits to local orphanages or local shelters or community centers to donate used clothing and learn about the uphill battle of local social workers in meeting the needs of the poor in Argentina. There is no requirement to bring clothing in order to participate in these trips.
GIC Argentina also encourages program participants to consider adding a volunteering position to their program. Many of the available volunteering positions are at orphanges or providing help to street children in Buenos Aires. Unfortunately, there are many children whose families or relatives do not provide for their basic needs, and these children end up in orphanages or turn to living on the street. Its not an understatement to say that, particularly for multi-month volunteers, you can help some of these kids feel part of a family again and help them try to recapture some of the future that they had lost. See our volunteering page for more information on these volunteering positions.
